In this direct casting method, molten metal directly fills a design carved/imprinted into the surface of a cuttlebone. Producing a finished three-dimensional cast object - in this case a signet ring. This technique is one of the earliest known casting processes used by man for thousands of years.

FAQ's
Can I make a solid gold signet ring?
Yes, the most cost effective way to cast your ring in solid gold is to create it in silver and then on the day of the class we would weigh your silver ring and quote you for it in solid gold by creating a mould and lost wax casting it. We have done some 9ct signets recently and were coming out around £300

The signet ring workshop was our second time to the Ringsmiths (we have done the silver ring one too), and it did not disappoint! Once again, the team are so patient, attentive and knowledgeable and it is always a pleasure to spend the afternoon with learning and laughing. Planning on coming back again for a third time to make our wedding bands for our big day next year. Love this place!

This was my second time attending the workshop, with my first ring made in the wax carving class. I wear that ring every day, so I wanted to try something different this time, and I’m so glad I did! It was fascinating to learn about the process and hand-design my own ring, from choosing the shape, to selecting the stone, and deciding on the finishing touches. The ladies who run the class are so welcoming and friendly, and even though I attended alone, it was a lovely group of people to spend the day with. They are there to help and guide you every step of the way, offering excellent advice. I’m really happy with my final product! Special thanks to Juliet and Ros!
