Kas & Ros

Hosted by award winning jewellers Milena Kovanovic (Crucible London) & Ros Millar with The Ringsmiths team.  In this direct casting method, molten metal directly fills a design carved/imprinted into the surface of a cuttlebone. Producing a finished three-dimensional cast object - in this case a signet ring. This technique is one of the earliest known casting processes used by man for thousands of years.

Over the course of this 4 hour workshop we will teach you everything you need to know about how to prepare and cast your very own silver signet ring. You will have plenty of opportunity to practice and test out this variable technique which is safe, fast and versatile.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more advanced students. 

Each student will be provided with an apron, though we ask you to please wear suitable non- loose clothing (as you would for any other semi-messy art form). For health and safety we also recommend close toed shoes.

With a maximum of six people in any one class, there will be plenty of opportunity for one-on-one interaction with the jewellers. The workshop will take place in a hidden, heated and covered garden, housed at the back of jewellery store ‘Kas & Ros’

Milena, Juliette, and Annabelle were fantastic guides, patiently walking us through each step of the casting process. Come and enjoy this 2.5 hour workshop getting creative and jewellery making. Craft your very own hammered sterling silver ring, whether as a gift for somebody or a treat for yourself. Hosted by close expert jewellers. 

They will guide you through the process of making a ring using traditional goldsmithing techniques such as annealing, forging, soldering, and filing to name but a few. In this workshop you will have the option of making either a wide hammered band or two fine hammered stacking rings (as pictured). Over the course of the class you will have plenty of opportunity to practice your newfound skills, as demonstrated by the jewellers throughout.

There’ll be plenty of opportunity for one-to-one interaction with the jewellers during your session. 

We offer gold plating as an optional extra which can be requested and paid for at the end of the workshop. Choose from yellow gold, rose gold or black rhodium plating for your finished ring(s) - prices range from £20 - £40. Please note this service takes up to 3 weeks and you will need to leave your ring(s) with us, which can then be collected or posted out.

Suitable for complete beginners with no previous jewellery making experience.

Participants must be 18 or over.

I attended a 'make a silver ring' workshop at the new venue near the Oxo Tower, and it was great - the workspace was light, bright and spacious; Ros and Milena were patient and engaging teachers and the whole morning was informative, well-organised and fun. Recently my boyfriend and I did the make your own silver ring workshop at the oxo tower location. First off, the venue itself was lovely with the work stations being well organised and ready for us. The teachers were very involved in the process; always on hand to help if needed. They would go through a demo for each step and then we would complete it independently (teachers on hand for any help or questions). Overall, the making process was really fun and satisfying. We learnt lots of techniques that our teachers informed us are important in a variety of jewellery making. There is a big emphasis on ensuring that you leave happy with the fit of your ring, with the teachers checking our sizing and also offering to resize any that did not fit. Also, when our rings were being polished we were offered refreshments which was a lovely touch. Personally, I would highly recommend this workshop we found that it was a fun way to create a keepsake for our 3 year anniversary. Thank you!
